The Oscars come around but once a year, and if you’re planning to host an Oscars party for the first or the fourteenth time, these tips will ensure that your party is fun, fabulous, and 100% vegan!

Dress to the occasion.
The stars will be donning their red carpet best for the Oscars. You can’t very well show up to your own Oscar party in sweatpants and a messy ponytail, can you? Suggest to your guests that they get gussied up for the event, and do the same. You can even wear a tiara if you want because, well, it’s your party. And don’t forget to dress up your place, too!

Know your vegan celebs.
A growing number of Hollywood celebrities have gone vegan, so it’s no surprise that there are quite a few vegan actors on the Oscar nomination list this year.

Jessica Chastain reportedly watched animal rescue videos to help her get through the difficult subject matter in her Oscar-nominated role in Zero Dark Thirty, which chronicles the efforts to track down Osama bin Laden after the September 11th attacks.

Anne Hathaway sported custom-made vegan shoes for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables. The film’s costume designers supported Hathaway’s commitment to cruelty-free fashion and had several pairs of boots and flats made from vegan materials for the production.

Joaquin Phoenix has been vegan longer than practically any other star in Hollywood– since the age of 3, that is. A longtime activist, Phoenix narrated the documentary Earthlings, which covers the suffering of animals used for food, fashion, pets, entertainment, and medical research. He earned a Best Actor nomination for his role in The Master.

Even if they’re not your favorite actors, you can’t help but giving a little extra cheer for the vegan nominees.

Feature a signature cocktail.
Every classy party has a signature cocktail, created especially for the occasion. Develop a twist on your favorite cocktail, or turn to something inspired by your favorite Oscar nominee, like this bold, peppery take on a mint julep, inspired by Django Unchained.

Whatever you decide to serve, consider preparing a large batch before your guests arrive so you can spend your time heckling first-time host (and vegetarian) Seth MacFarlane instead of mixing drinks. Not sure how much to make? Use an online drink calculator to estimate how much your guests might imbibe, and shop accordingly.

Serve up some award-winning snacks.
The official post-Oscars party is catered by Wolfgang Puck for the 19th year running, so you might want to take some inspiration from his menu. He says vegan food will be a big focus, and the spread will include vegan pizza, a kale salad with grilled artichoke, and a beet salad with spiced walnuts. Sounds like a delicious time to me!

For other ideas on vegan Oscars night treats, you can’t go wrong with canapes. They’re little bite-sized treats stacked with complementing flavors. Try these recipes, or create your own film-inspired stack:

Jicama-Date Canapes from Epicurious

Raw zucchini noodles with tomato, olives, and lemon juice from The Spade and Spoon

Mushroom and Caramelized Onion Polenta Bites from Le Delicieux
