It happens to the best of us—We know we should be eating our kale, but we start reaching for more burritos and less salads, more sweets and less fruit and, worst of all, relying on coffee as a primary energy source. For me, what started as an occasional espresso indulgence turned into a morning coffee requirement. My friends, it was time for a teatox.
What's a Teatox?
Vegan Cuts co-founder Jill happened upon The Teatox Company at the Toronto Detox Market and, being a teatox lover, she of course added their teatoxes to the Vegan Cuts marketplace and suggested that I give their 28-Day Teatox a try. There are three components to this easy-to-follow program: The Daytime Detox, The Nighttime Detox and The Total Detox Handbook.
The Daytime Detox
With a fruity, citrusy, and slightly tart taste, the Daytime Teatox has been professionally formulated to:
- Kick start weight lost
- Increase energy levels in an even-released, non-jittery way
- Give your liver some much needed lovin'
- Support your immune system
- Reduce bloating
- Improve skin clarity
The Nighttime Detox
With a slightly sweet minty taste + just a hint of cinnamon, the Nighttime Teatox has been professionally formulated to:
- Improve sleep quality
- Reduce stress and quiet the mind
- Support your liver
The Total Detox Handbook
This handbook guides you through the Teatox process by addressing the 5 Pillars of a Total Life Detox. Written by naturopathic doctors, it's completely customizable and up to you how much or how little you want to incorporate during your 28 days. Since it's delivered in digital form right after you purchase your Teatox, I was able to get to planning right away.
So...The Results?
The caffeine from yerba mate in the Daytime blend eased the coffee withdrawal and left me energized without the jitters or dehydration that I normally feel sans coffee. The Nighttime blend had me snoozing like a baby throughout the night—no tossing, turning, or waking up in the middle of the night for me!
As suggested by The Total Detox Handbook, I committed to eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet full of legumes, beans, whole grains, veggies, fruit, and healthy fats. I incorporated at least one salad and one protein smoothie into my daily routine and chugged lots of water—2 whole liters a day! Midway into my Teatox, those sweets were looking less tempting, I looked forward to my daily salad, and my energy levels regulated. I was on my way to a saying goodbye to coffee dependence and feeling better than I’ve felt in a long time!
*Disclaimer: Teatoxing does not ensure exotic vacations.
Now that I’m finished with my Teatox, I am still eating lots of nutritious, whole foods and when I need a little energy boost I look to teas like yerba mate and green tea in order to steer clear of habit-forming coffee. After climbing out of bed feeling well rested each morning, I reach past the mochachino to a tall, green smoothie.
To sum it all up, the TeaTox was a great way to reset. Need a kick in the pants? Try The Teatox Company's 28-day or 14-day Teatox for yourself!
